Role Overview –UHRS is looking for an experienced and technically strong Manager – Database Administration to oversee the organization’s database environment and ensure its reliability, security, performance, and availability. The role will involve managing database operations, supporting technical teams, monitoring system performance, maintaining data integrity, and leading initiatives that improve database stability and efficiency.

Database Administration – Oversee daily database administration activities and ensure critical databases remain available, stable, and properly maintained. Establish effective processes for monitoring, maintenance, and operational support.

Database Performance Management – Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks, capacity concerns, inefficient queries, or other issues that may affect application performance. Coordinate optimization activities to maintain reliable system performance.

Database Security – Implement and maintain appropriate database security controls, including user access, permissions, authentication, and protection of sensitive information. Ensure access is granted according to established policies.

Backup & Recovery – Oversee database backup processes and regularly review recovery procedures to help protect important business information. Ensure recovery plans are maintained and tested appropriately.

High Availability & Reliability – Support database availability and continuity by monitoring critical systems, identifying potential points of failure, and coordinating appropriate solutions to minimize service disruption.

Database Monitoring – Establish effective monitoring practices for database health, availability, capacity, performance, and system alerts. Ensure potential problems are identified and addressed before they significantly impact operations.

Data Integrity – Maintain strong controls around database consistency, accuracy, and reliability. Investigate data-related issues and coordinate corrective actions where inconsistencies or integrity concerns are identified.

Database Architecture – Work with technical teams to review database architecture and recommend improvements that support scalability, performance, security, and long-term business requirements.

Team Leadership – Lead and coordinate database administration activities while providing guidance to database administrators and technical team members. Prioritize workloads and ensure operational responsibilities are clearly managed.

Incident Management – Take ownership of significant database incidents and coordinate troubleshooting efforts to restore services efficiently. Analyze recurring issues and support measures designed to prevent future incidents.

Database Upgrades & Maintenance – Plan and coordinate database upgrades, patches, maintenance activities, and configuration changes while minimizing disruption to business operations.

Capacity Planning – Monitor database growth, storage requirements, resource utilization, and future capacity needs. Recommend infrastructure or configuration improvements before capacity limitations become operational concerns.

Disaster Recovery –

Support database disaster recovery planning and ensure appropriate procedures are documented, maintained, and periodically reviewed to strengthen business continuity.

Change Management – Review and coordinate database-related changes in accordance with established change management procedures. Ensure changes are properly assessed, documented, tested, and implemented.

Technical Documentation – Maintain accurate documentation covering database architecture, configurations, maintenance procedures, backup processes, recovery plans, access controls, and operational standards.

Vendor & Technology Coordination – Coordinate with database technology vendors, infrastructure providers, and external technical partners when specialized support, troubleshooting, licensing, or technical assistance is required.

Compliance & Audit Support – Support internal audits, security reviews, and compliance activities by providing relevant database documentation, access information, operational records, and technical evidence when required.

Continuous Improvement – Review database operations regularly and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, automation, security, and overall operational efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity professionals, IT management, and business stakeholders to ensure database services effectively support organizational objectives.
